The governorship aspirant of the African Democratic Congress, Architect Ezekiel Nya Etok says one of his plans for the state is to replicate the kind of Ibom E-library in all 31 Local Government Areas of the state to encourage ICT among young people in the state.
Nya Etok made his plan known when he chaired the just concluded Annual Open Week of the Ibom e-library organized by its management, HTG limited, Thursday in Uyo.
“If it pleases God in any way that I’ve been able to come to the hem of affairs in the state, this structure will be in all the 31Local Government Areas of the state. It will be an ICT hub, the biggest in the west African sub-region. The Silicon Valley must be brought to this state, from here we must get to the world, earning in foreign currencies”, Nyah- Etok revealed.
The theme of the annual open week which was “ ICT, Education and the Economy”, Architect Etok revealed that ICT will be the only survival tool to explore the world in the nearest future.
“I will like to say that if we are going to make progress as a people in the state, we should be going out of our way to indoctrinate our youths from primary schools, not secondary schools, force them, compel them into ICT.
“We must not leave any stone unturned to force people, especially the young people. ICT must be a policy in public schools.
“As a matter of fact, every single person of this state in tertiary institution must as a state policy be given a laptop, a customized laptop that he or she makes sure that they know how to programe”.
Architect Etok noted that Akwa Ibom State is blessed to have some of the best ICT managers in the Africa sub-region, adding that if government will focus on the knowledge shared at the event about ICT, Education and the Economy, the focus should be shift from building flyovers and bridges to building ICT wiszards, emphasized that ICT will give Akwa Ibom State the future they wish for.
On education, Etok who recounted how his life was drastically transformed as a young boy when he started visiting the library in Ikot Ekpene before proceeding to secondary school, thanked the management of the Ibom e-library for reawakening the edifice to encourage learning.
He appreciated all Akwa Ibomites who are adding value to the world through ICT and appreciated Senator Godswil Akpabio for establishing the structure in the state, Mr. Udom Emmanuel for keeping it.
“I will like to thank my former governor for building this library. I don’t know how he did it, whether somebody gave him a good proposal to do this or he actually understood what he was doing. And is within that context that I want to thank my governor, Udom Emmanuel for bringing thing library back to life”.
