The chairman Spiritual Fathers’ Forum His Eminence Sunday Mbang, has agreed that the forum will not be partisan in the choice of who succeeds Governor Udom Emmanuel in 2023, adding that they will support governorship candidate from opposition party provided such a person meet all the criteria set by them.
Speaking with newsmen in his Shelter Afrique residence, the cleric said as part of Akwa Ibom State community, it is natural for them to show interest in the governance matrix of the state.
“Given who we are, our objects and purposes, its only natural that we must show great interest in the Politics of Akwa Ibom State in particular, and Nigeria in general.
“Akwa Ibom State is a Christian state because more than 90% of the population of our citizens are professed Christians. Therefore, we are concerned about the moral, spiritual and circular characters of those who must lead us and represent us.
“These include the person that must be elected as our Governor, persons that must represent us as legislators in the National Assemblies, House of Assembly, Chairmen of the various Local Government Areas and Councillors in our Local Government Legislative Councils.
“Apart from the constitutional requirements that must be met by these categories of our citizens, we are concerned about issues of honesty, probity, morality and faith profession and practices of those we must entrust with positions of leadership and citizens servanthood.
“We cannot, as Fathers of Faith, afford to be onlookers or bystanders. If we are not totally committed to the welfare and wellbeing of our fellow brothers, sisters, sons, daughters and adherents, then we are not and cannot be seen as good shepherds, demanded of us by the Faith we profess.”
The Spiritual Fathers of Faith dismissed rumours that they have endorsed any governorship aspirant describing such as false.
“However, we would like to dismiss rumours circulating in the State that Akwa Ibom State Spiritual Fathers Forum has a preferred Gubernatorial candidate. This is absolutely false. On the contrary, we are praying conscientiously and would also work conscientiously to ensure that the people of the State elect a credible honest Christian citizen, with good leadership qualities and personal probity, as the Governor of the State, come 2023.
“The same holds true for those who must represent us in the various legislatures of our Local Government administrations”.
